A middle-aged man, Taye Isaac, was yesterday sentenced to
six months imprisonment by a Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Akure, Ondo
State for escaping from a police cell where he was being detained
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Sunday
Adedapo, however, ordered the accused to pay N20, 000 fine as an option.
Isaac was arrested for hitting the head of one Sunday
Akinola with a bottle during a fight. After his arrest and detention in police custody,
the accused person mysteriously escaped.
However, he was later rearrested and charged to court.
Isaac pleaded guilty to the offence, while the police
prosecutor tendered the statement written by the accused person to the court as
an exhibit.
