A Desperate Syrian refugee was forced to sell his kidney
to pay for passage to Europe, a Serbian aid worker said
The daring operation took place in a backstreet in
Lebanon, with the victim going 20 days without proper medical care.Alina, a Belgrade-based anti-trafficking organisation,
said he refused treatment and opted to travel on with only painkillers.
Aid worker Naser Amro said: "He sold his kidney to
get money to travel. He said he had pain and problems so we intervened to get
him to medical help."After talking with the individual he told us his
story."
However, Mr Amro said he was not in a life-threatening
condition."It was a 20-day-old operation and it was not done
the proper way of course. He was suffering from pain and he was provided with
painkillers.
"He did not want to stay, he wanted to continue his
journey, he was already on the border with Croatia."
