In May of this year, Danielle Javernig discovered she had the genetic mutation BRCA1 – making her significantly more likely to develop breast and ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed after she woke up in the middle of the night with a stabbing pain in her chest. She later discovered a lump.
Within a week of diagnosis, Danielle had to go through rounds of chemotherapy. After three months it became clear the treatment wasn’t working.
Danielle then had to undergo a full mastectomy.
She remained strong through months of treatment, and decided that she wanted to do something to honour her experience and all that she’d been through.
So, on her final day of chemotherapy, Danielle dressed up as Wonder Woman.Danielle told Daily Mail Australia: ‘All through chemo you sit there and it’s very depressing and everyone is sick and feeling horrible.
‘On the last day I wanted it to not be like that at all.’She will now have to continue with radiation therapy five days a week for the next month, and plans to have her fallopian tubes ovaries removed early next year.
Danielle told Brisbane Times: ‘I won’t be able to relax until that is gone as well, especially because they told me that was a risk.
‘After the next six weeks I can hopefully breathe a sigh of relief.’
