A group of hungry locals broke into a zoo and butchered a
horse for meat.Food shortages in the struggling country are being blamed as
one of the main reasons for the horrid incident which took place at Caracas’
Caricuao Zoo – last month.
In the early hours, when the zoo was closed, the group broke
into the state-run attraction. They took the black stallion, the only one of
its kind at the zoo, from its pen and then chopped the animal up in a secluded
spot.
Staff later arrived to a shocking scene, finding the horse’s
head and ribs, in a pile
This is not the first time the zoo has been targeted with
pigs and sheep being stolen earlier in July.
This incident comes as Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro
is struggling to hold his country together with looting, riots and shortages of
food and medicine all regular occurrences.
He is currently attempting to fend off attempts to hold a
recall referendum.
