Aviation Workers Ground Arik Air’s Operations Over N12.4 Billion Debt


The operations of Nigeria’s largest indigenous airline, Arik Air, were disrupted by members of several aviation unions on Wednesday morning over an alleged N12.4 billion debt owed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Scores of passengers were left stranded at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Arik Air’s operational base in Lagos, as early as 6.30 am as placards-carrying unionists grounded the operation of the airline.

Some of the passengers were seen demanding a refund from the airline staff while others were making alternative arrangements.

Four-Year-Olds Asked by Primary School to ‘Choose Their Gender’


Children aged four have been asked to choose the gender ‘they most identify with’ on a council form.
Brighton and Hove City Council wrote to thousands of parents to confirm their primary school places this week.

The council asked parents to support their child’s choice on whether they identified as male or female and allowed them to leave the form blank if their child had ‘another gender identity’, according to The Sun.

Missing British Hiker Found Dead in Peru


A British hiker who went missing in Peru almost two weeks ago has been found dead.
Harry Greaves was last seen on April 7, shortly before his 29th birthday, when he set out on a mountain hike in the Andes.

The furniture maker, from Shropshire, was expected to return three days later but it was not until yesterday that his body was found at the foot of a 40-metre crevasse.

His family confirmed last night that he had been found.

The domestic worker charged with the murder and robbery of her employer has testified that she had “a problem with her salary” and decided to quit the week Chatsworth mother and businesswoman, Kalawathie (Kay) Sewcharan, was killed.

Sewcharan’s domestic worker, Limakatso Cristina Mokulubete, 30, and Mokulubete’s boyfriend, Zamokuhle Ndlovu, 27, are on trial for her murder.

The trial was initially held in the Durban High Court, but was transferred to the Pietermaritzburg High Court where Judge Nkosinathi Chili is presiding.

Man Arrested For Children's Murder


Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly killing his two children in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that the suspect used a kitchen knife to kill his seven-year-old daughter and eleven-year-old son at the weekend.

Police believe the suspect, a father of three, was planning to kill all his children including a four-year-old boy, his estranged wife then himself.

Emefiele — China to Start Importing From Nigeria


The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has disclosed that there is an ongoing talks between the Federal Government and China to enable the Asian country import some of its own requirements from Nigeria.

The CBN boss noted that the development would help to reduce the deficit in trading between the two countries drastically.

Saraki: ‘You Have no Power to Summon Justice Umar’, SERAP Tells Senate

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the leadership of the Senate to “immediately withdraw the unconstitutional summon for Justice Danladi Umar, Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal to appear before its Ethics Committee, as the Senate cannot  arrogate to itself the power to summon judges without violating constitutional safeguards.”

“The summon represents a direct assault upon the principle of judicial independence as it undermines the constitutional principle of separation of powers and guarantee of a judicial system that is free from outside influence of whatever kind and from whatever source. The Senate of Dr Bukola Saraki is perpetrating a parliament of men and not of laws,” the group said in a statement by its executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni.

Senators and governors from the Southern bloc have initiated moves to stop the National Graz­ing Bill which the Executive arm of government plans to send to the National Assembly.

The bill, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, is designed to check the incessant clashes be­tween Fulani herdsmen and farmers by creating special graz­ing reserves for the herdsmen in various parts of the country.

The Publicity Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West states have called for spiritual assistance to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti.
The party chieftains said Fayose needed special deliverance session to overcome his mental condition that was negatively affecting the workings of his mind.

In a statement, jointly signed by the APC spokesmen of Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos and Osun states, Messrs Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, Taiwo Olatunbosun; Sola Lawal; Joe Igbokwe and Morakinyo Akintola, the APC members noted that the call became imperative on account of the repetitive odd conducts by the governor before and after he assumed office for a second term.

Here are photos of the 36 armed herdsmen who were arrested by by troops of the 117 Guards Battalion Keffi along the Abuja-Keffi road on Sunday. Another group of 56 herdsmen was arrested at the Dantata check point between Kuje and the Abuja airport. Items recovered from them include 26 cartridge Dane guns and 49 cutlasses and knives.They were paraded by the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Monday.

Lara Oshiomhole Trains 160 IDPs On ICT, Others


Wife of Edo State governor, Mrs Lara Oshiomhole, has concluded the training of 160 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, on Information and Communications Technology, ICT, food processing, creative arts and fisheries.

The training was undertaken under Mrs Oshiomhole's pet project, "We Care Trust" to prepare the IDPs for productive life after camp.
