Police Arrest Traffic Robbery Suspect


The Lagos Police Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Sunday said it had arrested a traffic robbery suspect whose gang terrorised motorists in Lekki-Ajah axis.

This was contained in statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Oladapo Badmos, in Lagos on Sunday.

17 Year Old Girl Arrested After Stabbing in Cleveland


A 17-year-old Cleveland girl stabbed another teen in the back Saturday night, police said.
The incident happened about 7:30 p.m. on the 3200 block of East 119th Street.

Witnesses told police that a group of girls was walking down the street when another group of girls ran toward them from behind.

Man Shot in The Head Outside Garfield Heights Bar


Ohio -- A shooting outside a Broadway Avenue bar left one man injured early Saturday, police said.

The shooting took place about 1 a.m. in the parking lot of Niecy's Place.

A fight between "numerous" people started and bar security managed to separate the combatants and kick everyone out, police said. It is unclear what caused the fight.

Chadian President Idriss Deby was yesterday elected new chairman of the African Union (AU).

Deby who took over the chairmanship of the AU from Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, will serve the position in 2016.

Mugabe announced Deby’s election in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday at the opening of the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

Cameroon Denies its Army Killed Nigerian Civilians


Cameroon is denying reports that its soldiers have killed dozens of civilians in cross-border raids pursuing Boko Haram extremists into Nigeria — the third such report from Nigerian villagers in two months.

Cameroon’s Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary on Friday dismissed a AP report, saying Cameroonian troops were working “in perfect synergy” with Nigerian armed forces and have been trained to avoid human rights abuses.

Coca-Cola Buys 40% Stake in Nigerian Juice Maker Chi


Coca-Cola has bought a 40 percent stake in Nigerian juice and snack producer Chi Ltd, it said on Saturday, as it continues to expand in Africa to tap a young and fast-growing population.

The United States drinks giant bought the stake from unlisted TGI Group, the two companies said in a joint statement, but did not disclose the value of the sale.

Seven persons died early today when a boat ran over a submerged log at Badore area of Lagos waterways while ten survivals were rescued from the scene.

The incident occurred at about 10.20am after the boat with 17 passengers on board took off from Ijede jetty on board Badore, Ajah.

Ohio Seminary Student Accused of Trying to Arrange Sex With Baby in Mexico


 An Ohio seminary student was arrested Friday in California on allegations that he intended to travel to Mexico to have sex with a toddler or baby.

Joel A. Wright, 23, of Columbus was taken into custody Friday after getting off a plane at at Lindberg Field in San Diego, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement.
Wright had written emails to an undercover agent posing as a travel guide that he wanted to adopt or purchase a female child under age 3 in Tijuana, Mexico, for the purposes of having sex with her, authorities said.

Mother of Man Who Died in Mentor Fire Describes Him as Generous, Friendly


The mother of the man who died Friday in a fire at a Mentor print shop described him as a generous person who wouldn't hesitate to help others.

James Omersa Jr., 43, died in the fire that broke out just after 5:15 a.m. at the Print Shack on East Avenue.

A passerby reported the fire at 5:19 a.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene and had the fire under control in 23 minutes, police said. It appears the fire was accidental but its cause has not yet been determined, officials said Friday afternoon.

Woman Gets 6 Months in Jail For Beating 5 Year Old


Krysta A. McBride, 25, was charged May with two counts of child endangering, after beating her stepson in March. McBride pleaded not guilty in June and changed her plea to no contest in December.

At the time of the offense, the child’s father, McBride’s husband, was in a different part of the house when she beat the child with a belt, according to Medina County Prosecutor Dean Holman.

Sterling Man Indicted For Woman’s Overdose Death


A man from Sterling has been indicted on criminal charges for allegedly supplying heroin to a woman who died from a drug overdose just a few short hours after having a baby.

 52-year old Larry Davenport is charged with felony counts of involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs. The charges stem from the death of 23-year old Kimberly Karosy last August. Karosy gave birth at Davenport’s home, but the child did not survive.


Medical officials have been unable to determine whether or not the child was stillborn.

Man Caught on Video Stealing Shrimp From Akron Grocery Store


Police are asking for help identifying a man who stole shrimp from an Akron grocery store.

The suspect was caught on video at the Acme on East Avenue on Jan. 15 putting the shrimp down his pants. Akron police said he fought with loss prevention officers, who tried to keep him in the store, and showed them a gun while he fled.

One Found Dead in Fire at Mentor Business


Firefighters found a person's body under debris that collapsed in a fire early Friday in Mentor.

The fire broke out just after 5:15 a.m. on East Avenue near Patterson Drive, the Mentor Police Department said in a statement. The address is home to Print Shack, according to the company's website.

A woman is dead after an apartment fire Friday morning.Fire crews from Toledo’s Station 4 responded to the Deerfield Run Apartments on Arlington Avenue around 9 a.m.

"That crew went in and made an aggressive attack, located the fire and did a rapid primary search,” said Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, Toledo Fire Department.

Felony Charge For Woman Who Threatened to Stab Prosecutor at Barberton Court

A Norton woman accused of threatening to stab a prosecutor after a court hearing Thursday remains jailed on $250,000 bond. 

Terryl Baker, 47, is now charged with retaliation, a third-degree felony. The charge added on Friday carries a penalty from probation to five years in prison.

Facebook is banning private sales of guns on its flagship social network and its Instagram photo-sharing service, a move designed to clamp down on unlicensed gun transactions.
Facebook already prohibits people from offering marijuana, pharmaceuticals and illegal drugs for sale, and the company said Friday it was updating its policy to include guns. The ban applies to private, person-to-person sales of guns. Licensed gun dealers and gun clubs can still maintain Facebook pages and post on Instagram.

EFCC Arrests Own Operative For Extortion



An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu, a deputy detective superintendent, has been arrested for offences bordering on extortion, influence peddling and impersonation, the commission said in a statement Friday.

The officer was arrested on Monday following intelligence report alleging that he extorted $150,000 from some military officers on the pretext that he would help give them a soft landing in the ongoing investigation into the arms deal scandal.

Suicide Attack Kills Many in Adamawa


A suicide bomber, believed to be a boy, struck at a crowded market in Gombi, Adamawa State yesterday, killing many people according to witnesses. A local vigilante leader told Daily Trust on telephone that 20 persons are feared dead.

Other accounts say there were twin blasts at the Gombi Grain Market, at about 2:00pm when the market was at its peak. A source said following the blasts, chaos ensued as residents rushed to the scene in search of loved ones.
