A suicide bomber, believed to be a boy, struck at a
crowded market in Gombi, Adamawa State yesterday, killing many people according
to witnesses. A local vigilante leader told Daily Trust on telephone that 20
persons are feared dead.
Other accounts say there were twin blasts at the Gombi
Grain Market, at about 2:00pm when the market was at its peak. A source said
following the blasts, chaos ensued as residents rushed to the scene in search
of loved ones.
Gombi was recaptured from Boko Haram insurgents in 2014
and since then, the violent sect has made several failed attempts to retake it
from soldiers.
Military authorities at the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola
could not be reached for comment as at press time yesterday.
