Kaduna State government has announced the immediate
suspension of a traditional ruler over alleged involvement in drug-related
offence.
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
(NDLEA) on January 20, 2016 allegedly arrested Alhaji Ibrahim Danladi with
1.5kg of marijuana.
Danladi, who is the village head of Goma in Gimi district
of Sanga local council of the state, reportedly admitted ownership of the
illegal drug. NDLEA officials said he would be charged as soon as
investigations are concluded.
In a statement yesterday by the Special Assistant to
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Samuel Aruwan, “the NDLEA has subsequently
notified the Kaduna State Security Council on the arrest of the traditional
ruler.”
He said that, “while deliberating on the matter, the
Council recommended his suspension from office pending the conclusion of
investigations and possible trial,” adding that, “the government has accepted
the recommendation.”
Meanwhile, an inter-faith group, the Global Peace
Foundation in Kaduna, yesterday began the training of traditional, religious as
well as youth leaders in the three senatorial zones on peace building and
conflict prevention among people of the state.
With the theme, “One family under God campaign,” the
Northern Coordinator of the group, Rev. John Hayab, said the aim
was to promote and sustain harmony among the various faiths, ethnic and tribal
groups.
