The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday said it
has received the retirement letter of the erstwhile Super Eagles striker
Emmanuel Emenike.
NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, who said this during
an interview on Brila FM, said it was unfortunate that Emenike decided to
announce his retirement from international football first on the social media
before writing the federation.
He said, “It was only yesterday that I got a letter
notifying me officially that he (Emenike) wants to retire from international
football. Before going to announce on the social media, I think it would have
been more appropriate and more respectful to write the federation. It was quite
disrespectful that he went to the social media to announce his retirement.
“Emenike contributed immensely to the Eagles. He was
the highest goal scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations that we won. His
contributions are legendary and we wanted to accord him the kind of privilege
and farewell that he deserves. Now that he has gone, what do we do?”
Pinnick also refuted claims that the Eagles coach
Sunday Oliseh had failed in man-management.
He absolved Oliseh of any blame in the resignation
of the both former captain Vincent Enyeama and Emenike and called for support
for the coach saying he is on the right track.
