A former Dragons Den star is standing trial accused of
paying a 13-year-old schoolgirl for sex.
Doug Richard, 57, met the alleged victim on a ‘sugar
daddy’ website before taking her to a rented apartment. It’s then alleged that
he spanked her repeatedly before having sex.
The court heard he gave the girl and her 15-year-old
friend £480 in cash and PayPal deposits, including the train fare to travel
from Norwich to London.
The millionaire stands accused of three counts of sexual
activity with a child, one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual
activity, and a charge of paying for sexual services.
Richard, who was once an adviser to David Cameron, denies
the charges and claims the sex was ‘consensual’, and that he ‘reasonably
believed’ the alleged victim was aged 16 or over.
He also insists the money was
to help with travel expenses and was not payment in exchange for sex.
