Kelly Rowland’s life completely changed in 2014 when she
married her longtime manager, Tim Witherspoon, and then later that year gave
birth to their son, Titan Witherspoon. Like any woman, Rowland worried if she’d
be up for the challenge, but in a new interview she explains how motherhood has
changed her life for the better.
In a new interview with Parents magazine, she explained
just how motherhood has changed her.
“I was nervous that I didn’t have the patience to be a
good mom, because before Titan I had zero. But now I am very patient. The Bible
verse ‘love is patient’ is real! I don’t make the little things into big issues
like I once did. My OCD had to go out the window. My living room looks like a
freaking day care!” Rowland said.
However, she says things weren’t always easy for her
after becoming a mom. In particular, she explained that she was disappointed in
herself when it came to breastfeeding her son.
“I had my heart set on breastfeeding, but I wasn’t
producing enough milk. I got down on myself, which I think was mentally
limiting my supply,” she said, explaining that she eventually switched to
formula.
Rowland also opened up about the dark time she
experienced when her own mother died just three weeks after Titan was born.
“It was a tough, emotional point for me,” Rowland
explained. “I remember not wanting to be sad for Titan. I wanted to keep myself
together because I believe that all that stress and grief can be passed on to
your baby. Knowing Titan needed me, and having that to focus on, helped me
through.”
And one of the sweest memories she has so far of her son
is seeing his first smile.
“He was on the changing table and I was singing a silly
song to him: ‘Titan’s so fly! Titan’s so fly!’ He just looked up at me and
smiled and my heart melted,” she shared.
And when it comes to new mothers, Rowland had this to say
for advice: “Write on your mirror in lipstick: ‘I had a baby. I’m a
superhero.’”
