Idols SA judge Gareth Cliff’s future with the M-Net
station will be reviewed, the company said on Wednesday.M-Net CEO Yolisa Phahle said: “Gareth Cliff is not
currently contracted to M-Net and we will be reviewing his future employment
with the company.”
This comes after the controversial radio presenter,
weighed in on an anti-black Facebook post by Penny Sparrow in which she
labelled black beach-goers as “monkeys”.
Soon after the post went viral, Cliff commented saying
“People just don’t understand free speech at all”.
Twitter users did not take his comment lightly and called
on South Africans to boycott Idols SA as well as his online radio station,
Cliff Central.
On Tuesday Cliff apologised saying: “With regard to free
speech and hate speech, I need to continue me education”.
M-Net did not elaborate on what action would be taken.Filming
for the current season of Idols SA is already underway
