The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS will March 15
hear the case of retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, the National Security Adviser (NSA)
to former Nigerian President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
The embattled former NSA is asking the ECOWAS Court
for redress over alleged violation of his fundamental human rights.
Dasuki’s case is among the 45 cases from 10 Member
States that have been scheduled for the first quarter of 2016 by the Community
Court of Justice, ECOWAS.
According to the records provided by the Registry
Department of the Court, the cases would be heard between February and April.
Most of the cases before the ECOWAS Court are from
human rights violations against Member States.
Another case is that of Djibril Bassole, who served
as foreign minister under former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore.
Some of the criminal charges preferred against
Dasuki are unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering.
The cases will be heard by different panel of judges
drawn from the present Members of the Court, which include Hon. Justice Maria
Do Céu Silva Monteiro (President), Hon. Justice Chijioke Friday Nwoke (Vice
President), and Hon. Justice Jérôme Traoré (Dean). Other members of the Court
are Hon. Justice Micah Wilkins Wright, Hon. Justice Yaya Boiro, Hon. Justice
Hameye Foune Mahalmadane, and Hon. Justice Alioune Sall.
