A woman left with severe burn wounds and blindness
in one eye after acid was thrown in her face on a night out is now homeless and
sleeping in a car park.
Mother-of-six Carla Whitlock, 37, suffered burns to
her face, neck, arm, and face after the attack outside the Turtle Bay
restaurant in Southampton, Hampshire, in September last year.
She underwent surgery and was placed in protected
accommodation while police searched for her attackers, but now she is homeless
and has been sleeping inside a multi-storey car park in Southampton for the
past six weeks.
‘It’s just horrible, I have had to cope and recover
while being homeless, I have never felt so desperate,’ she said.
‘I just don’t know what to do any more I feel like
we are being held down and ignored, I blame the police for not keeping me
safe.’
Ms Whitlock said that because she has no fixed place
of residence she cannot book appointments for further operations in hospital.
Hampshire Police said they have offered her help and
will continue to offer assistance.
‘Hampshire Constabulary along with the Street
Homeless Prevention Team, Southampton City Council and Portsmouth City Council
have been working closely with Carla since her attack to find her safe and
clean accommodation,’ said a Hampshire Police spokesman.
‘We understand she has not accepted the last
accommodation she has been offered. We will continue to work with her.’
