Also relieved of their duties are all Education Secretaries, Cashiers and Treasurer in the 21 local government areas of the state. While the Head of service, Dr. Moses Atakpa conveyed the sack messages to the Permanent Secretaries and Directors during an emergency meeting; the Cashiers, Treasurers and Education Secretaries learned of their sacks through media statement.

Confirming the story, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement in Lokoja said the state Accountant General was also sacked. “I wish to confirm that Governor Yahaya Bello has directed that all Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Administration are to go on compulsory leave with immediate effect.

The exemptions in this category are people in acting capacity and the Permanent Secretary, Government House. “Also, the Accountant General has been relieved of his position while the second in command will also proceed on compulsory 30 days leave.

“At the local government level, the DLGs, treasurers, cashiers and Education Secretaries are to proceed on compulsory leave. The decision is geared towards ensuring a more efficient and productive civil service.” Vanguard gathered that the governor decided to sack the Perm Secs, DLGs and others over their alleged culpability in the sabotage of previous staff screening exercises in the state.
