This is the moment that Kate Winslet was
captured on camera tearing up as her good friend Leonardo DiCaprio finally won
an Oscar.
The pair have been BFFs since filming
Titanic in 1996, and it was obvious that Leo’s win also meant a lot to Kate,
who had previously admitted she was only going to the ceremony so she could see
him pick up the gong.
Leo’s win came after five previous
nominations and the star received a standing ovation from the audience.
In his speech he thanked his friends and
family and took the opportunity to warn the world of the dangerous effects of
climate change.
Kate was nominated for her performance
in Steve Jobs but told the BBC earlier this month that she felt ‘very strongly
that it may possibly be Leo’s year’ and that ‘he is my closest friend in the
world, and I just couldn’t imagine not being there to support him’.
The two were
later seen holding each other tightly as they spoke after the ceremony and it
was a sight that would have no doubt pleased all the Kate and Leo shippers out
there, especially after they surprised everyone by turning up to the ceremony
together.
It came after the BAFTAs two weeks ago
when they held hands after Kate’s unexpected win for her role alongside Michael
Fassbender in Steve Jobs.
