Young Man Finds €100,000 in River


The lucky man dived into the river - but bystanders thought he was trying to commit suicide and called the police, who plucked him out with the cash.

The mystery of €100,000 (£71,000) cash found floating down a huge waterway has police stumped.The huge stash of €100 and €500 banknotes was spotted in the River Danube in Austria on Saturday.

A young man saw the cash and jumped into the water to get it.Stunned bystanders though he was trying to kill himself and called the police, reports Oesterreich newspaper .
Cops turned up just as he was fishing out the money.


Investigations have so far found no criminal act in the area in which such a sum of money had been lost, a spokesman for the Vienna police said.

"The boy said he wanted to bring it to the police, but the question is whether the police found it or the boy," the police spokesman said.

In Austria, anyone who finds cash and brings it to the police can claim between 5 and 10 per cent of the sum.


They also have the right to receive the whole amount if its rightful owner cannot be identified within a year.
